Prof. Ghosh completed his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Chemistry from Visva-Bharati University, Shantiniketan, West Bengal, during 1984–1987, with Chemistry as his major subject and Physics and Mathematics as subsidiary subjects. He graduated with First Class honors and secured the 1st rank in his class.
He then pursued an M.Sc. in Physical Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, from 1987 to 1989.
Subsequently, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Bombay (now the University of Mumbai) between 1990 and 1996, with doctoral research focused on the study of fast photophysical and photochemical processes in liquid media.
From 1997 to 1998, he conducted post-doctoral research at Emory University, Atlanta, USA, where his work centered on femtosecond infrared and visible spectroscopy.
Later, he served as a Visiting Scientist at the Max-Born Institute, Berlin, Germany, from 2007 to 2008, focusing on femtosecond vibrational spectroscopy.

· Recipient of APA-Prize for Young Scientist (2004) from The Asian and Oceanian Photochemistry Association.
