Foundation Day Lecture

Tuesday, September 6, 2016 - 16:15
Prof. Sriram R. Ramaswamy
TIFR Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences
Active Matter
Prof. Ramaswamy's main areas of interest involve condensed matter, statistical and biological physics. He is particularly interested in collective dynamical behaviour far from thermal equilibrium in liquid crystals, colloidal suspensions, surfactant solutions and living matter, from cell extracts to flocks of organisms.

Prof. Ramaswamy who did his PhD from University of Chicago and holds the position of Professor in Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has introduced innovative courses on soft-matter physics and biological physics.

More about some of his pioneering work can be found in the following publications:
1. Hydrodynamics of soft matter - Reviews of Modern Physics 85, 1143, 2013
2. Hydrodynamics and Phases of flocks - Annals of Physics 318, 170, 2005
3. The mechanics and statistics of active matter - Annual Review of Condensed Matter Physics 2010
