Over the last decade, Observational Cosmology has made rapid progress with the advent of high quality and large data sets generated from multi-wavelength galaxy surveys, observations of the cosmic microwave background and the absorption spectra of quasars. Over the next decade, India will also participate in the next generation of projects like SKA and TMT. The aim of the school is to train and expose young researchers so that they can contribute to this rich and growing discipline of galaxy and structure formation in the Universe.
The lectures will cover basics of structure formation in standard cosmology and topics in galaxy formation. There will be hands-on sessions which will complement these lectures and introduce the participants to data analysis and running N-body simulations. During the one day workshop participants will be encouraged to present short seminars on their current research. There will also be invited speakers to expose them to current research areas in Galaxy Formation and Cosmology.
